Even The Brain Dead Can Have A Pulse

Commentary By Ron Beasley

The New York Times' Adam Nagourney has out done himself.  In The G.O.P. Checks for a Pulse and Finds One he seems to think that in spite of having no leaders and no ideas the Republican Party is making a comeback.  Why?  Because they can throw up road blocks in front of the ideas of a Democratic president.  The Republican party is now the party of the pre-civil war south.  The best comment on Nagourney's piece comes from conservative Tom Maguire:

G.O.P. Checks for a Pulse, and Finds One

Yes, but is there any sign of brainwaves?

They are still searching for new leaders and new ideas.

Dare I say it?  The party of Terri Schiavo has become Terri Schiavo.  Transiently, one hopes.

All of this does not mean we can be complacent about 2010.  The Republican base may be brain dead but they can and will find the polls and vote.  The danger is that progressives and independents will be so demoralized they will simply stay home and if that happens the South can indeed rise again.

as long as that chicago north sider rahm emmanuel is calling the shots, the dems are screwed. rahm is killing the progressive need for change and progress. we so needed Howard Dean in that position. the dems are gonna get crushed in the 2010 because of rahm's triangulation bullsh*t and fellating of all things corporate and their $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

btw FIP = Fine Illinois Person

The danger is that progressives and independents will be so demoralized. . .
It's already happened to me. In 2010, I'll vote Democratic. But, for president in 2012, I'm going back to what I always used to do before 2008 -- vote third party.

This is the most balanced, ideology free blog I've ever visited. It's refreshing to read the points you make, because you don't contribute to the divisive political climate that is dragging down our country. Keep up the good reporting!
