Big Comeback For The Republicans in 2010?

The media seems to think the Republicans can make big gains in 2010.  But as John Amato points out they refuse to report on just how unpopular the Republicans remain.

As this Research 2000 poll shows the Democrats still have a double digit approval rating lead over the Republicans and while the Democrat's favorability has been dropping the Republicans has been dropping as fast if not faster.  On the House side John Boehner's numbers make Cheney look popular.  

Does this mean the Republicans can't make big gains in 2010?  Sadly the answer is no.  The Republican base of birthers, deathers and anti-abortion/anti-gay theocrats will show up to vote.  The Democratic base is not at all happy with their politicians and there is a danger they will simply stay home on election day.  The Republicans realize you can't win without your base - the Democrats don't seem to appreciate that.  With polls showing over 60 percent of the country supporting a public option why is there even any discussion of health care reform without it?
