Instahoglets Weekend

By Steve Hynd

Some linky love from our blogroll for your weekend reading pleasure.

- First up, Alex Thurston at The Seminal with an excellent piece on what he'd like to see from Obama's Afg/Pak strategy review.

- Our own Eric Martin, writing at Obsidian Wings, wonders if the Bush Doctrine is now a dead dodo but thinks over-reliance on the military option isn't dead yet, now that the magical acronym COIN holds out hope to interventionists of actually winning more than two wars at a time, albeit at great cost over decades of conflict.

- The Armchair Generalist declares Ari Fleischer "Asshat of the Year", confident no-one will outdo Ari in douchebaggery for another 81/2 months.

- Bernhard at Whiskey Fire will bet a case of good German beer that the "anonymous US official" recently leaking spanners in the works of British Middle East policy is named Dennis Ross.

- Larisa "At Largely" has an analogy to explain the financial bailout. It begins "A thief breaks into your house..."

- Certifiable genius Jon Swift looks at the Bristol Palin unmarriage through conservative eyes.

Please, tell me what good stuff you've been reading (or writing), and I'll update the post.

Update:  Ali Eteraz is writing poetry for those zealots who would be his enemies.

The actions of the Armchair Generalist when declaring Ari Fleischer 'Asshat of the Year' are way premature.

Frank Gaffney already was competitive with Fleischer's performance and I have all confidence in our Republican friends that one of them will outperform him.

Yep, it's a strong early entry in the competition from Ari, but with so many wingnuts and so many months left...

Regards, Steve

I don't know, Gaffney is a pretty consistent voice on conservative issues, and while he says things that are outlandish, I doubt he will surpass Fleischer in the sheer unmitigated gall of rewriting GWB's legacy. There are many wingnuts and Repub voices, sure, but none seem to get the floor that Ari gets and none seem to be so boldly assertive about their "facts." Even idiots like Coulter and Ingrahm, you know they are just fanning the flames and being entertainers to their rabid base. Ari's just damned dangerous and needs to be body-slammed hard.
