UK's Brown Calls For Halt To Gaza Attacks
By Cernig
Gordon Brown goes (sorta, kinda) where America's leaders, in hock to AIPAC, fear to tread and almost condemns Israel's premeditated assault on Gaza:
"We are appalled by the continuing violence in Gaza and reiterate our call to Israel and Hamas for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of innocent life," said a spokesman for the British prime minister.
"In his discussions today with Prime Minister Olmert and president Abbas, the prime minister has also pressed for full, unimpeded and urgent access for medical teams: a humanitarian breathing space.
Britain was in close contact with the United Nations "to assess how best this support can reach those who need it," he added.
And he said: "There is no military solution to this situation. The prime minister and foreign secretary remain in constant touch with international and regional partners to establish the parameters for a sustainable peace.
"We must redouble the international effort to ensure that both Israel and Palestine have the land, rights and security to live in peace."
However, Hamas leaders have said they'll talk about a truce as soon as Israel's airstrikes halt but the Israeli defense minister has today said it is "war to the bitter end." If you're serious, Mr Brown, you'll tell Israel bluntly that it must halt its assault to allow negotiations otherwise the UK will impose unilateral sanctions and seek international partners for a more robust embargo...and be damned what the folks in D.C. think.
I won't be holding my breath waiting for any such thing to happen, though.

However, Hamas leaders have said they'll talk about a truce as soon as Israel's airstrikes halt ...... If you're serious, Mr Brown, you'll tell Israel bluntly that it must halt its assault to allow negotiations
But Hamas must be allowed to continue its rocket fire during the "negotiations", right Mr. Progressive?

Well then you have a problem because Hamas hasn't offered to stop firing rockets.
Why should Gordon Brown "tell Israel bluntly to halt the assault to allow negotiations" on the terms that Hamas is demanding (ie. a one-sided ceasefire in which Hamas still fires rockets into Sderot and Ashkelon)?

Yeah. What a shame. The world's 1st freely elected suicide regime is getting hammered for violating a cease fire and far way politicians and pundits call for a cease fire.
Time to post vids on you tube of Americans dancing in the streets.
