Those Convention Speeches
By Cernig
Shorter Fred Thompson - "John McCain was a P.O.W.!"
Yes, it really was that free of real content. As much an "Obamanation" of a speech as ever was given.
As for Joe Lieberman - He's hoping that nobody notices that he, like John McCain, wants history to have begun in early 2007. At that point, America has been in Iraq since the Creation and therefore the abomniable judgement shown by Lieberman and McCain in boosting the invasion under false pretenses need never be accounted for in any debate about judgement. Worse, he wants history to end right now, so that there will be no speculation about the future course of Iraqi reconcilliation which might affect debate on whether the Holy Surge was actually worth it to America.
His hope doesn't seem to have been misplaced as far as the mainstream media is concerned, at least. But there's pushback on his flat lies.
George W. Bush. A nine-minute grinning virtual presence in widescreen, but not for primetime. That's how the party bridges the gap between his popularity with the faithful and his abysmal ratings with the general populace.
In general, utterly content free. Not a policy in sight, just personality boosterism which wasn't even all that convincing because it was boosting constructed, one-dimensional, public personas, not real people. But then again, they readily admit they don't intend to campaign on the issues.
Driftglass: And over all hangs a shadow.
