So much for abstinence only education

By Ron Beasley

John McCain claims he knew but I find it hard to believe.

Palin confirms daughter's pregnancy

The Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has announced that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Bristol Palin, one of Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.

"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us," the Palins' statement said.

"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support," the Palins said.

I'm not sure how this is going to impact things.  Do you have any ideas?

Update

Reuters has more

ST. PAUL (Reuters) – The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

"So much for abstinence only education"

I was unaware that abstinence only was school board policy in Alaska. Did governor Palin initiate any legislation to remove sex ed from the Alaska school curriculum? If so, when?

Please clarify.

Good job lib bloggers! Looks like you're going to get to spend another 8 years scratching your heads and baying at the moon. You obviously have no idea what effect this condescending attitude is having with the middle-of-the-road voter. It confirms all the anti-family stereo-typing the Republicans have laid on you!

Bullshit "independent" (like that tag is fooling anyone). I have seven kids (all by choice), eldest three teens or twenties - but none of them have gotten pregnant or gotten anyone else pregnant because they know what contraception is and how to use it. Go crawl back to the McCain Campaign website and claim your points now.

And BTW - to any trolls who might want to say "but what about the Trig pregnancy smears?" What about them? We didn't smear. Go troll where they did.

Regards, C

Nobody here said it was "school board policy in Alaska", but our Christian exemplar of all things moral was quoted in 2006 as follows:

Q: Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?

Sarah Palin: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.

Consider this your clarification.

Just one question.

When was the last time you heard a pinched, nasal, smug little Appalachian voice saying "I blame the parents!" ?

[...]We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us[...]

"Whoever can speak, speaking now to the whole nation, becomes a power, a branch of government, with inalienable weight in law-making, in all acts of authority. It matters not what rank he has, what revenues or garnitures. The requisite thing is, that he have a tongue which others will listen to; this and nothing more is requisite. The nation is governed by all that has tongue in the nation: Democracy is virtually there."
