She's no Margret Thatcher

By Ron Beasley

I watched Sarah Palin's speech tonight and I've been burned a few too many times over estimating the intelligence of the US voter so I hesitate to predict how it will go over.  The convention goers loved it but as part of the hive they have to.  Lots of red meat for the base and she did come across as a soccer/hockey mom. I guess the question is do the US voters really want a hockey/soccer mom as the next in line?  Time will tell.  Not much bible thumping end of times stuff but the base knows she's a member in good standing of the flat earth society because Dobson already said so.  Did it work?  No predictions here - the polls next week may give us a clue.

I'm an X soccer dad.  My wife could never handle the early Saturday morning wake ups or the Western Oregon rain. And yes I was a pit bull - a few red cards and ejections.

All you need to remember about the American voter: Bush 2000 & 2004. Steve Schmidt is simply amplifying the Bush/Cheney message with McCain/Palin. Palin really seems to have nothing but contempt for Obama and his supporters. She will be very politically useful during the campaign. As an article awhile ago in the Atlantic said; "Democrats can't win and Republicans can't govern." We're watching this play out again. How can McCain/Palin govern after they trash most of the support they will need to accomplish anything? I was not a Reagan supporter but he maintained a cordial relationship with Tip O'Neal. McCain may be able to rebuild some of the bridges if he lasts long enough, but Palin? How would a Palin presidency accommodate the opposition to accomplish anything. I think she would just go to war with the Democrats. She would have to rule by executive fiat. And she would probably try to by invoking "God's will."

I can't believe the Republicans are still using that logo:

It's subliminal, the trunk is an s, uppercase E on the elephant's back and the hind legs form an x: sex.

Garbage in, garbage out. Thank you, George Carlin.
