Goldfarb Fails His Saving Throw Vs. IQ

By Cernig

By now you might have seen this from Weekly Standard hack Michael Goldfarb speaking on behalf of John McCain's campaign (h/t John Cole):

It may be typical of the pro-Obama Dungeons & Dragons crowd to disparage a fellow countryman’s memory of war from the comfort of mom’s basement.

It's not the first or even second time Goldfarb has used "D&D gamers" as an insulting code for "geeky losers" - which ignores entirely the large number of military types who play the game as well as all the professionals who do. Needless to say, the D&D community is not happy - with this being a typical comment:

It's not that he marginalized gamers; it's that he marginalizes Americans. It doesn't matter what hobby he picked. In this case he was making a distinct stereotypical statement basically saying that if you support Obama then you are a worthless nerd undeserving of anything other than bullying. It's one of the reasons I simply will not be giving my vote to any candidate that uses these tactics. Name calling is childish especially for someone in his seventies.

Ah...so Goldfarb's being an elitist. What a surprise.

But the really funny bit is that Hasbro Inc., the parent company of the publishers of D&D, gave only to Republicans in the 2004 election cycle and have long used Republican strongmen Duberstein Group as their lobbyists in D.C.... so Goldfarb has senselessly tried to alienate over 20 million current and former players of a game which has made a Republican-supporting firm over $1 billion in revenue.

Way to go, Michael!

Technically it should be he "fails his WILL saving throw" or he "fails his INT check" but I get the point.

It's always hilarious when these morons do not bother to do the research and bite the hands that feed them, by attacking the people that fund them. D&D as a slur, what is this 1985?

What century is this? Sure people play D&D now (and why is it Republicans are always so concerned about what other people do in their basements???), but most of the people who played D&D in their mom's basement are now adults raising families.

(Though, we're strictly 3.5 OGL rules now - no more money to Hasbro from us ;-) )
